History
The Tuggeranong Community Council was formed in 1983 to provide a voice for issues affecting the community. The Council is an apolitical peak organisation, and provides a service to the residents in a voluntary capacity. This Council has been involved with all areas of the improvements in the Valley. The residents know that if they have concerns or improvements they wish to put forward, they can come to the Council. The Council will work with which ever Government is in power to achieve this for the residents.
Aims and Objectives:
The Tuggeranong Community Council has a diverse role to play in Tuggeranong. It's objectives are to promote the interests of the Tuggeranong Valley Community, to enhance and improve the cultural, social and environment well being of Tuggeranong residents and community groups. To identify community groups and establish and maintain a close liaison among them, to contribute to the physical and social planning of the development of the Tuggeranong Valley.
Community Successes:
It is with great pride that we can look at the successes that this Council has achieved, by working together with the community and the Governments. These are just some of the achievements this Council has been involved in :Tuggeranong Community Centre, Lakeside Swimming Pool, New Police Station, Skate Park, Lanyon Shopping Centre, Art
Centre, Lanyon Youth and Community Centre, new welcoming sign to
Tuggeranong Town Centre. Upgrade of the following: Hyperdome Shopping
Centre, Tuggeranong Homestead and Schoolhouse, Erindale Sports Centre,. Centre
Link, Child and Family Centre, New Office building in Town Centre Medical Area
Lanyon.
All the above have brought the Town Centre of Tuggeranong alive and we now have
a vibrant area during the day instead of a ghost town. The surrounding areas are
also now more efficient in providing the needs of our community.
Meetings:
The meetings for the Council are the first Thursday in the month, at 7.30pm, with the exception of December and January, when most people are on holiday. The venue is the Town Centre Sports Club, Cnr Rowland Rees Crescent and Athllon Drive, Greenway.
Larger issues that call for a special meeting are arranged and notified to the public at the time. All residents both established and new welcome to attend.
