Neighbourhood Watch Program:

The Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) is a scheme based on a co-operative effort by the community and police to help prevent crime.  Residential suburbs are divided into NHW areas and zones represented by appointed volunteers.  The program receives financial sponsorship from Tattersalls and is co-ordinated by the AFO in conjunction with NHW volunteers.

Bi-monthly NHW meetings are held at Tuggeranong Police Station and all participants and interested residents are welcome to attend.  Newsletters containing information on local criminal activity and other NHW issues are distributed to households on a regular basis.

Efforts are currently being made to increase the coverage and general membership of the program, with a view to minimising the incident rate of preventable crimes in the local community

For more information, please contact Constable Sharon Slater on (02) 6293 7738

Safety House

Safety House is a community based program providing a safer environment for our children and citizens.  A Safety House can be identified by a smiling house on a yellow background.  If a child or an elderly person finds themselves in need of a Safety House, all they need do is knock on the door and know that they will get all the assistance they require.

The householder who has a Police Criminal check will assess the situation and contact the appropriate person/s who could be a parent, babysitter, friend or relative, Ambulance or Police.  Safety House can only work if members of the community participate in the program.  You can do this by becoming a Safety House and also by joining a committee in your area.

If you would like any further information or would be prepared to be on a Safety House Committee or would like to be a Safety House, contact the ACT Safety House Association on (02) 6245 7496.( Pera Schrweeder)
