Environment

There are over 30 Community Environmental Care Groups in the Tuggeranong area. All these groups come under the umbrella of "Urban Services Lad Care", which is a cooperative program between the ACT Government and the community. The groups are involved in a range of activities which include revegetation, weed removal, litter removal, ecological surveys, water quality monitoring, herbarium collections, photographic recording, public awareness and education.

Emphasis is also placed on natural/cultural heritage preservation, planting of rare and endangered native flora, growing seedlings from seed and planting them on local hills, planting trees, shrubs in the Murrumbidgee River Corridor area for erosion control and revegetation.

Other environmental projects include waste management and recycling through local schools, waste manure from stables, lawn clippings, Autumn leaves as mulch and use of discarded timber for buildings and fences, etc.

Litter control measures are emphasised with the introduction of bins with lids to prevent the spread of litter. Participation in the "Clean Up Australia" program is encouraged. Regular clean ups of the Murrumbidgee River Corridor area from Pine Island to Point Hut Crossing take place.

These are just some of the environmental projects carried out in the Valley.
