On Wednesday, 25th May, 2016 representatives of the TCC Committee, Beverley Flint and Frank Vrins attended the official launch of the proposed new State Emergency Service Centre in Calwell, Tuggeranong. ACT Minister Simon Corbell MLA, advised the amount of $2.7 Million has been allocated for the new SES Centre. ACT Minister Mick Gentleman, SES Chief Officer Mr Conrad Barr and ACT Ambulance Commissioner of Emergency Services Agency, Mr Dominic Lane along with voluntary staff members of the SES attended on the day.
The proposed SES Centre will be located on Johnson Drive, Calwell (next to the Calwell Ambulance Station). This will be the first purpose-built SES facility in the ACT and will be well received by the residents of Tuggeranong Valley and the volunteers who will staff the new Centre. SES Chief Conrad Barr advised the new facility would house four-wheel drives, specialist storm response equipment and a flood rescue boat. It is hoped that the new facility will encourage more volunteers into the service.
