WASTE BINS ARE TO BE REMOVED FROM ALL PARKS IN CANBERRA.
Concerns have been raised as to what will happen to the waste now? most residents take their waste home with them. unfortunately not all do and the waste can blow around and impact on the environment.

City
tip in line for tonnes of toxic soil
Canberra
times 30.9.08
I refer to the above front page of the Canberra
Times September 30 2008 , City tip (Mugga Lane) in line for tonnes of toxic soil
by Rosslyn Beeby. Once again the Tuggeranong Area has not been consulted, but
the Chief Minister Jon Stanhope has made the decision on the Tuggeranong
residents behalf, that the removal of toxic waste should be
moved near the residents of Macarthur and Fadden. Why is that the
Tuggeranong residents have been chosen when the Belconnen Tip is much nearer?
Maybe the Chief Minister, Mr Jon Stanhope MLA and the TCC
MLA’s would like to address a meeting and inform the people of
Tuggeranong just how safe this waste is, what
toxics are involved and what health issues should we be concerned about.

FUTURE
PLANNING
As part of the initiative it was announced that a
new community hall would be constructed in south Tuggeranong, , Calwell and
Conder. Community halls can be located within various zones (planning
policies) eg community facility, urban open space and commercial. There are no community halls in Theodore,
Bonython, Gordon and Banks, but there are community halls/facilities in Conder
and Calwell that are accessible to residents from Banks and Theodore.
After considering the availability of suitable land in Gordon and Bonython it
was considered that a site in Bonython was an ideal location for a
community hall. We have identified part of Block 8 Section 21 Bonython as
the proposed site. The site is next to the childcare centre, it is fairly
flat, on a major road and close to the entrance to the suburb (with public
transport), close to playing fields and a short distance away from the school
and local shops. The community hall will be in the order of 300 square metres,
similar in size to the community hall at Palmerston. No plans have been
developed for the community hall. By way of example, the Palmerston
community hall has one large multi-purpose space, with a couple of small
meeting rooms. A community hall that is being built at Forde has
one large multi-purpose area, with a meeting room and a computer hub - as
an alternative. It is
our intention to consult with the adjoining land holders about the proposed
use of the land. Community involvement will be important as the design of the
building progresses.
ACTION: The
Council has invited the
Planning Project Manager Mr Peter Johns and the Bonython residents to
the TCC Public Meeting on the 2nd October 2008

WHAT’S ON NOTICE BOARD

In October 2007, the ACT Government announced a range of new water supply projects, which ACTEW is now working to implement.
The major projects currently underway include the Enlarged Cotter Dam and the Murrumbidgee to Googong Water Transfer. ACTEW is also progressing the Tantangara Transfer and the Design of a Demonstration Water Purification Plant.
There's really no substitute for face to face conversation so we will also be holding a number of workshops .

LETTERS
Dear
Tuggeranong Community Council President, Rosemary
Lissimore
Firstly
let me express my sincere appreciation for your time and concern, particularly
at last nights' meeting. I and my fellow neighbours are very grateful for
your interest and support. I hope my presentation was not too provocative.
I am sorry I was not more clear - I am not at all accustomed to public
speaking but practice makes perfect.
I
think it was fairly clear from the meeting that many people are not aware of the
impact of the 2003/04 rezoning and of the way the legislation is being
implemented in respect of decision making on individual development
applications. It is only when you personally become aware of what certain
types of developers are proposing that you see the devastating impact as the
outcomes start to unfold in way that is not in accordance with the original
intention of the town planners.
Thank
you also for your effort to submit the Council's views to the ACTPla
Applications Secretariat by the 8 September deadline. I think the
presentation you have prepared is wonderful. I have re read the comments
made previously by Richard Johnston and you are quite right to include
this reference in your submission.
I
would therefore be most grateful if you could proceed to submit the Council's
views on this development application.
Please
accept my deep appreciation
Yours
sincerely
Carol
Allnutt
